Community Middle School is excited to welcome two new classes into the curriculum this year – Civics and Film.
Teachers Mr. Andrew Heiser and Mr. Jacob Binder will lead the Civics course, where the main components will focus on values and principles underlying the American system of constitutional democracy; the function and limitations of government; and the role of a citizen in our society.
Mr. Heiser adds that he wants his students to learn about the differences between fact and fiction, how to stay up to date on events from the local to federal level, how to vote, and how to make their voices heard. Students will learn skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.
Film is also being introduced this year for both 7th and 8th graders as a special cycle – taught by Mr. Michael Ratliffe and Mr. Gary Henningsen.
The main objectives will be introducing students to the world of production. Students will learn and use hands-on skills to produce a video segment for CMS Knightly News where they will direct, write stories, be the anchors and be fully involved in a news broadcast for the school.
As the class creates these video segments, they’ll do so in Spanish and English – an idea from Mr. Ratliffe that allows every student to participate behind and in front of the camera. Offering the segments in multiple languages will reach even more of the Bound Brook community.
“The whole class is involved,” Mr. Ratliffe said. “I’m very proud of that.”
La Escuela Intermedia de Community Implementa Nuevas Clases de Educación Cívica y Cine
Community Middle School se complace en dar la bienvenida a dos nuevas clases en el currículo de este año escolar – Educación Cívica y Cine.
Los maestros, el Sr. Andrew Heiser y el Sr. Jacob Binder, dirigirán el curso de Educación Cívica, en el que los componentes principales se centrarán en los valores y principios que sustentan el sistema estadounidense de democracia constitucional; la función y las limitaciones del gobierno, y el papel de un ciudadano en nuestra sociedad.
El Sr. Heiser añade que quiere que sus alumnos aprendan las diferencias entre la realidad y la ficción, cómo mantenerse al día de los acontecimientos desde el nivel local al nivel federal, cómo votar, y cómo expresar sus opiniones con claridad. Los alumnos aprenderán habilidades que podrán utilizar para el resto de sus vidas.
Este año, también se ha introducido el cine para los alumnos de los grados 7 y 8 como un ciclo especial – impartido por el Sr. Michael Ratliffe y el Sr. Gary Henningsen.
Los objetivos principales serán introducir a los alumnos al mundo de la producción. Los alumnos aprenderán y utilizarán habilidades prácticas para producir un segmento de vídeo para CMS Knightly News (el programa de noticias escolares) donde dirigirán, escribirán historias, serán los presentadores, y estarán totalmente involucrados en un noticiero para la escuela.
Mientras la clase crea estos segmentos de vídeo, lo hará en español y en inglés – una idea del Sr. Ratliffe que permite a todos los alumnos participar detrás y delante de la cámara. Ofrecer los segmentos en varios idiomas permitirá llegar a más personas de la comunidad de Bound Brook.
